Scientists have developed a brain implant thinner than a human hair that allows people to use social media with their minds alone, without having to use their hands or press any buttons. a computer.
But this invention, known as the Level 7 Cortical Interface, could also allow healthy people to use social media with their minds alone.
This brain implant differs from Elon Musk’s in that the procedure required to implant it is less “invasive” and dangerous because the chip is placed on the surface of the brain rather than in tissue.
What is an implant?
- It is a strip of thin flexible material similar to adhesive tape.
- The tape contains electrodes and is about a fifth of a human hair thick.
- This helps implant the device into the brain, fitting it to the surface of the brain without damaging the tissue.
How is agriculture done?
- To implant the device, surgeons make a very thin incision in the skull and insert it.
- The incision is less than a millimeter, meaning patients don’t even need to shave their heads, Michael Mager, CEO of Precision, told CNBC.
- Mager added: “I think this is a huge advantage compared to methods that require, for example, the removal of a large part of the skull, which is time-consuming and carries a high risk of infection. I have never met anyone who wanted to make a hole in their skull.”
- The device works by collecting and interpreting brain signals and issuing commands to the connected device based on the received brain signal.
- Because scientists can easily increase the number of electrodes on the tape, it could be used to treat other neurological conditions.
- The chip can be easily removed if the patient changes their mind.
Accuracy said the device was able to decipher brain signals in animals, expressing hopes to get approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to test the implants in humans in the next few months.
