Mauritanian presidential guard forces closed the perimeter of the presidential palace in the capital Nouakchott shortly after hearing gunshots in a civilian prison.
A correspondent for the Mauritanian Independent News Agency reported that military vehicles had left the presidential guard barracks and closed the perimeter of the palace.
The reporter pointed out that the army forces also closed the perimeter of the civilian prison after it became known that there had been a shootout inside the prison.
The Mauritanian Ministry of the Interior announced that “four terrorists who escaped from prison are being pursued”, confirming that two guards were killed and two wounded.
