As with all religious and other occasions affecting communities that make up Canada’s social fabric, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement on the occasion of the month of Ramadan yesterday, Wednesday, congratulating Canada’s Muslim community on a blessed month.
Trudeau said in a statement that the month of Ramadan, which falls in the ninth month of the Hijri calendar, is a time for spiritual reflection, fasting, prayer and charity for Muslims who gather in the evening with their families and friends to share iftar.
The Prime Minister of Canada felt that the iftar that follows the Maghreb prayer is an opportunity to reflect on the values of mercy, gratitude and generosity that underlie Ramadan.
Trudeau concluded his speech by saying, “As we mark the beginning of Ramadan, I join all Canadians in celebrating the continued contribution of Muslim communities to our vibrant and diverse national fabric. On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish peace and happiness to all who celebrate Ramadan… Ramadan Mubarak.
