Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper of England’s Aston Villa and Argentina’s 2022 World Cup winners, has been named World’s Best Goalkeeper of 2022 in a FIFA referendum.
Martinez received the award during FIFA’s annual ‘Best of the Year’ awards ceremony, which took place today, Monday, in Paris, France.
Martínez won the award by beating Belgian Thibault Courtois, the Spanish goalkeeper of Real Madrid, and Moroccan Yassin Bono, the Spanish goalkeeper of Sevilla, with whom he was shortlisted for the award.
Lionel Scaloni, manager of the Argentina national team, has been named the best coach in the world for 2022 in a FIFA referendum.
Scaloni took home the award, beating Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti of Italy and Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola to make the shortlisted contenders for the award.
