Argentine star Lionel Messi received the Ballon d’Or as the best player in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after leading his country to World Cup victory for the third time in history and the first time in 36 years.

Messi, 35, scored seven goals at the World Cup in Qatar, including two goals in the final match against France, which was decided by Tango Argentino with a 4/2 penalty after regulation and extra time ended in a 3/3 draw.

Argentina won the World Cup for the third time in its history, having won the title twice before, in 1978 and 1986.

French star Kylian Mbappe was awarded the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer, scoring eight goals, including three goals (a hat-trick) in the final match at the Doha stadium.

Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez won the World Cup Goalkeeper of the Year award thanks to his impressive saves that took his country to the podium.

21-year-old Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez became the best young player in the World Cup.
