In this context, Al-Hussein Yuabed, public affairs officer for the Met Office, said: “This cold wave is the result of a concentration of air depression in the western Mediterranean that has allowed cold polar air from northern Europe to descend across the western Mediterranean towards our country; This results in a significant decrease in temperature in most parts of the country, especially in the interior, the Atlas Highlands, the countryside and in the east of the country, which is two to five degrees below normal.
Yaabed confirmed in a statement to Hespress that temperatures will drop slightly throughout the day. He continued: “Given these cold weather conditions, be careful and avoid going outside in the bitter cold…and if you must go outside, avoid the coldest hours and avoid staying in the cold for long periods.”
A public relations officer for the Met Office said that minimum temperatures are expected to range from minus 8 to minus 3 degrees, while the highest temperatures range from 02 to minus 2 degrees in the prefectures and provinces of Ifrane, Taza, Sefrou, Pullman, Beni Mellal , Azilal, Khenifra, Al Hauz, Midelt and Tinghir.
According to the same representative, the weather in general will be characterized by continued cold weather with the formation of frost or ice in the highlands and adjacent areas, in the south-east of the country, in the highlands, in the eastern region and in the interior plains. This is in addition to a few drops of light rain falling in Atlas and in the plains between El Jadida and Essaouira.
He continued: “We will also see snowfall over the peaks of the High Atlas, which are over 1700 meters high; While minimum temperatures will range between 0-7 and 01 degrees in the Atlas and Eastern region, and between 6 and 13 degrees near the coast and in the Sousse region, and will be between 0 and 7 degrees in the rest of the Kingdom. .
