The Olympic Council of Asia proposed on Thursday to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in the Asian Games despite Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
The Olympic Council of Asia, based in Kuwait, stated on its official website: “All athletes, regardless of their nationality or passport, should be able to participate in sports competitions”, and continued that it proposed “providing qualified Russian and Belarusian athletes with the opportunity to participate in Asian competitions, including the Asian Games.
And the International Olympic Committee announced on Wednesday that the return of Russian athletes for the 2024 Olympics in Paris should be “further explored”, despite Ukraine’s calls for their ban.
