The positive signals are encouraging, sent by “convention tourism” to sector professionals after achieving a significant recovery over the past two months, given the significant number of cultural and economic forums organized by a group of major cities.
Several Moroccan cities have been on a date with many events of international resonance in recent weeks. This has had a positive impact on the local economy, which has benefited from this positive tourism development.
Tourism for exhibitions and conferences has been concentrated on the Casablanca-Marrakech-Tangier axis after a previous period of hiatus due to the effects of the outbreak of the new “Corona” virus in the Kingdom, which contributed to the resurgence of the tourism sector again during the autumn.
The “Red Capital” has gained a large share in the organization of conferences due to the readiness of its infrastructure to receive participating delegations, which has made Marrakech an international venue for economic and cultural events that can be competed for by holding offsite forums.
Conference and exhibition events generate important economic returns for tourism professionals, especially between September and January of each year, given that the participating delegations use these conferences to explore their cities of residence.
In this regard, Zubair Buhut, a tourism professional and researcher, said: “The peak period of tourism is not limited to the summer season only, but there are other peak periods that start mainly in October.”
Buchut added in a statement to the Hespress e-newspaper that “October and November show important tourism dynamics after economic and social entry, in addition to the organization of national and international conferences in a number of major cities.”
The same specialist continued that “these conferences and forums are difficult to organize in the summer, which encourages the organizers to wait until the autumn season to hold them”, highlighting that “forums are mainly concentrated in cities where there is infrastructure. ”
And the same spokesperson added that “major cities with international air links get the largest share of global forums; This is due to the Casablanca-Marrakech axis, which amplifies the tourism dynamism that the country is experiencing due to the coronavirus retreat.
