The International Union of Muslim Scholars has issued a fatwa on the legality of an economic boycott of countries and individuals that violate Islamic constants.
He called on Islamic governments to object to the violation of Islamic holy sites and constants through diplomatic means and in accordance with international norms.
While the scientists of each country were given the right to boycott in every Muslim country the products of countries that violate Islamic constants, because they are “more aware of the benefits, harms and harms that result from this boycott.”
The Union derived its fatwa from prophetic hadiths, including his saying, peace be upon him and the prayers of Allah: “Fight the polytheists with your money, yourself and your tongues”, indicating that this falls under the scope of “jihad with money”. which includes abstaining from transactions with polytheists by way of buying and selling, and so on.”
Its decision, issued a few days ago, indicated that its Committee on Jurisprudence and Fatwas had examined the matter and concluded that “the use by Muslims of the boycott is not an innovation on the part of the commanders or a violation of world order.”
It also mentions the historical use of economic boycott by Muslims and non-Muslims as one of the methods of pressure and deterrence in the face of the other side to respond to specific demands or refrain from certain policies.
On a related matter, the committee approved “the legality of the boycott of all economic activities of the occupiers and usurpers of the land of Palestine, including dealing with them by buying, selling, importing, renting and promoting, and their direct or agency participation in everything that concerns them.”
