According to data from the National Fisheries Administration, the amount of coastal and traditional fish products dumped at the port of Tarfaya has decreased by 7 percent in the first two months of this year.

The data showed that the number of dumped in January and February of the current year amounted to 870 tons; At the same time, the market value of these products increased by 45 million 192 thousand dirhams, or 10 percent, compared to the same period last year (41 million 204 thousand dirhams).

The source added that the number of surface fish caught decreased by 16 percent and reached 192 tons at a financial value of one million 637 thousand dirhams (minus 5 percent).

Over the past two months, the amount of white fish landed in the port of Tarfaya has decreased by 15 percent, reaching 258 tons, indicating an increase in financial value of 1 percent (5 million 345 thousand dirhams).

As for shellfish, their number increased by 408 tons, or 2 percent, with a financial value of 38 million 24 thousand dirhams, an increase of 11 percent. The amount of discarded crustaceans also increased by 112 percent, reaching 12 tons (186 thousand dirhams / 91 percent).

At the national level, the amount of discarded salable products from coastal and traditional fisheries in the first two months of this year increased by 117,405 tons, or 2 percent, compared to the same period in 2022.

The value of these discharges was AED2.052 billion, compared to AED2.027 billion for the same period last year, according to the National Fisheries Administration.
