French police have arrested 217 people during protests in Paris against a controversial pension reform that was pushed through by parliament without a final vote in the lower house, local media reported.
France Info station, citing French police sources, said 217 people were arrested at the Place de la Concorde in central Paris, near the meeting place of the House of Representatives, on charges of “rebellion”.
According to media reports, riot police used water cannons and tear gas to clear the square of 6,000 people who opposed the pension reform.
